SUPER Y League - U17's
Players born on or after August 1, 1991 are eligible for the Super Y League U17 Team
The Real Maryland U17 Super Y League Team is coached by:
Coach Fernandez grew up playing youth soccer in the Washington, D.C. area. He played at Francis Middle School in D.C., where he was named Athlete of the Year. He later played at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, Maryland. His play earned him a scholarship to play at Santa Clara University in California.
He moved back to Maryland after a year, and went to University of Maryland – College Park. While there, he began to play in various local amateur leagues until he started his coaching career. His first coaching job was with Olney Soccer Club where he took the team to the state championship game, and helped move many teams up through NCSL.
In 1999, Fernandez created his own club, Juventus FC, where he enjoyed the greatest success of his career, taking many youth teams to national tournaments. In 2002, the U-19 team won the national championship, while the U-16 team repeated that triumph in 2004.
Fernandez has also led Juventus FC to victory in the Nations Cup, Cocoa Expo Cup, Christopher Columbus Cup, Colonial Cup, Rush Cup and many others. In 2007, he led the team to victory in the Copa Taca, a prestigious soccer event in the DC metropolitan area.
In 2003, Fernandez was also hired as the top assistant at Prince George’s Community College. He won the NJCAA coach of the year award in 2005. Fernandez also became a licensed state referee in addition to his coaching career.
In 2007, Fernandez was hired by Real Maryland FC. He is currently head coach of the Super 20's. In 2008, their inaugural season, Coach Fernandez led the U20's to a finish in the top 4 Nationally at the Super 20 Championships.
He has a C coaching license from NSCAA, and a B license from the U.S. Soccer Federation.
