Rockville, MD ? Real Maryland FC heads to Harrisburg on Saturday, April 24th to square off against the Islanders on their home turf.? The Monarchs will then turn around for a home game on Tuesday, April 27th against the Charleston Battery back in Rockville, MD.
The Monarchs are heading into the second game of the early part of the season looking for points in the standings and points on the field.? Last Saturday?s Season Opening Match versus Pittsburgh saw both teams leave the pitch with a 0-0 tie.? Both defenses were stingy and Pittsburgh left with the valuable 1 point from the tie.?
Real Maryland FC now looks to be the spoiler and take some points away from the match this weekend.? Last season, the Monarchs did not match up well with the Islanders as they saw losses with no goals scored in each contest both home and away.? With the addition of some of the former Harrisburg players and a new surrounding cast, the team looks to show a different side in 2010.
The 2010 Season is new and there is a solid quality about the team including a strong midfield including Nicki Paterson, Nate Baker, Ben Hunter and Alan Sanchez.? Between the four of them, they will look to penetrate deep into the offensive territory of Harrisburg on Saturday.? With a little bit of skill, some new offensive power and the solid defense the Monarchs will look to bring home the points.
On Tuesday, April 27th, the Monarchs return to the home pitch at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD for a rare midweek game against former USL 1 Side the Charleston Battery.? In the opening weekend of the season the Battery, the lone team in the League, were able to get the magic 3 points over the Charlotte Eagles.
The Battery will face the Monarchs last week?s opponents the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday in Charleston, SC.? The result will make for interesting preparations for the Tuesday battle when Charleston comes to Maryland as they throw down with Real Maryland FC.
At half-time, there will be giant hamster ball races for the kids sponsored by Games2You and gift cards given out to the winners of the races by Potomac Pizza the official pizza partner of Real Maryland FC.
