Real Maryland FC Community Soccer Festival

Silver Spring, MD – On March 26th, 27th and 28th, Real Maryland FC will be hosting their Inaugural Community Soccer Festival.  The Festival will span over three days that will see elite teams from the Greater DC Metro and Mid-Atlantic Area.  There will be teams from the Professional Ranks, College Level and Elite Youth Level that will be participating in the event.

Teams that are to be included in the event are Real Maryland FC, The Harrisburg City Islanders, American University, Towson University, UMBC, Loyola U Maryland, Georgetown University, George Mason University, George Washington University, Wesley College, Real Maryland Super Y League, Potomac Academy, Northern Virginia Royals Super 20 Team, DC United U18 Team, Olney SC, Pachuca FC and Bethesda SC.

The Community Soccer Festival is intended to bring teams from the local regional area to get an excellent opportunity to play some talented competition.  In addition to the strong competition, Real Maryland FC’s European Partner Real Sporting Gijon will be sending over a scout to help assess the talent of the area and to see if there is anyone that could be invited back to Spain.

Last year, five individuals were invited over to Real Sporting Gijon during the summer/fall of 2009.  Three of the Super Y League Players Shawn Cowdry, Jony Karahbetyan and Carlos Canas were able to stay and train with Sporting Gijon’s Youth Academy System.  In addition, Coach Hudson was able to go and watch and study training of the La Liga side and Captain of the Monarchs, John Borrajo, was invited to go and train with the La Liga’s reserve squad.

The Festival will kick off on Friday night with the Olney U14 boys taking on the Real Maryland SYL U15 Boys.  Kick off is slated for 6 pm.  Most of the college and professional matches will take place on Saturday starting at 1 pm and going all day.  Sunday will be filled with youth, college and professional starting at 9 am.

All games will be played at Richard Montgomery High School.  There will be a $10 fee to get in and watch the matches.  The one time fee will get you in for the entire weekend or for just one game.  Please arrive early and come support your local community soccer teams.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division, the Super 20 and the Super Y League of the United Soccer Leagues.  All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.  For more information, please visit realmaryland.us or contact General Manager David Noyes at (301) 933-6460.
