Monarchs Host Hogges Saturday
Silver Spring, MD – On Saturday, August 8th the Real Maryland FC Monarchs welcome back the Bermuda Hogges for their final regular season home match of 2009. The game will be played at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD and will begin at 6 pm.
The regular season series between the two teams is tied 1-1 with each having won at their home venue. The Monarchs opened the season at home against Bermuda on April 25th. Real Maryland FC is currently in fifth place and the final playoff spot with a record of 7-9-2 (23 points). Bermuda, 4-11-4 (19 points), is looking to pull itself out of the cellar in its last regular season game of 2009. The Hogges have picked up points in their last two matches.
The playoff picture is not set as the United Soccer League’s Second Division has remained tight all the way through the season. While next weekend officially marks the end of the regular season, a regular season champion and the playoff table could be set after Friday and Saturday’s games.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Bermuda prevailed with a 1-0 victory at home. In the season opener for the Monarchs, they were also victorious at home by a score of 3-2. The stage is set for an interesting showdown between the two squads.
Real Maryland FC made history this year. The Monarchs were the first USL 2 team to air all of its home games live on the United Soccer League’s USL Live. If you can’t make it out to Lester Stadium tomorrow, you can tune into the game on www.USLLive.com. Bob Locicero and Marc Serber won’t disappoint as they bring you play-by-play action tomorrow and hopefully into the playoffs.
