Real Maryland FC Set for Busy Weekend

Silver Spring, MD – The Monarchs will have a full plate this weekend as they welcome the Eagles from Charlotte on Friday night and CSD Municipal from Guatemala on Saturday night.  Both matches start at 6 pm and will be played at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.

After playing the Eagles in Charlotte, NC this past Saturday night, the Monarchs will match up with them again at home, just 7 days later.  Last weekend, the Eagles came out shooting.  In the first half they outshot the Monarchs 15-2, but failed to take the lead as the half ended 0-0.

The second half saw Maryland get back into the game and create some good chances.  Despite those chances, the Eagles broke through in the 69th minute to take the lead.  Just like the night before against Wilmington, Gary Brooks stepped up his game and headed home what would be the game tying goal off a great cross from Ryan Corderio.  Both teams tried to find the game winner but the game would end 1-1.

The tie gave Real Maryland FC a valuable point in the race for the playoffs.  They now sit alone in fourth place just 4 points behind Wilmington in third place and 7 points behind league leaders Richmond and Harrisburg.  The top 5 teams make the playoffs and the Monarchs have games left to play against all the teams in the top half of the Second Division.

On Saturday night, Real Maryland FC will host their second International Friendly of 2009 when they take on CSD Municipal.  Club Social y Deportivo Municipal, also known as Municipal or Los Rojos (the Reds), are a Guatemalan professional football club based in Guatemala City. They compete in the Liga National, the top division in the nation.

Municipal are the only Guatemalan club ever to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, a title they obtained in 1974.  Municipal are considered to be the most popular club in Guatemala, and are traditional arch-rivals of club Comunicacioness, who are also located in the capital city.

On Friday night all children and persons with disabilities receive free admission to the game.  In addition, members of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce will be out and about displaying what the local businesses have to offer for the Rockville area.  Come support the community!  For tickets, please contact Real Maryland FC at or by calling (301) 933-6460.
