Monarchs Host Pittsburgh Saturday

Silver Spring, MD – Real Maryland FC will host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this week on Saturday, July 11th.  The match will be played at Richard Montgomery High School with a start time of 6 pm.  Real Maryland FC will conducting a contest that evening for the local soccer clubs of the Greater Maryland Area.  There will be discounts given to all players dressed in their soccer club’s game jersey and a parent accompanying them.  The local soccer club that shows up to the game with the most players and the most club spirit will win a chance of a lifetime -- A GAME AGAINST THE REAL MARYLAND FC PROFESSIONAL TEAM!!!  All soccer clubs and teams in Maryland, Virginia and DC are encouraged to attend and participate.

Real Maryland FC comes into the match with a record of 6-6-0 with 18 points.  The 18 points so far have been good enough to put the team in fourth place.  In a tightly contested season, the 18 points have positioned the Monarchs well giving them hope to make a run for the playoffs.  The team is coming off of a brief break over the 4th of July weekend that has helped in mending some nagging injuries.  With the short break and their recent road victory against Crystal Palace Baltimore the weekend prior, the Monarchs will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are coming into Saturday’s match with a record of 4-6-3 for a total of 15 points.  The Riverhounds are looking to for 3 more points to pull equal with the Monarchs in the standings of the USL Second Division.  In a meeting earlier in the season, Pittsburgh was able to walk away victorious at home by a score of 2-1.

The Monarchs are poised to put forth a strong showing this Saturday as they see the return of some key players that have been sidelined with injuries for most of the season.  With the recent addition of Michael Holoday, the team should see the same starting backline two games in a row for the first time all season.  Two important players, Jeff Carroll and Jamie Holmes, return to the lineup in hopes of bringing a spark to the Real Maryland FC offense.  The Monarchs hope that the return of key players over the next couple of games will give them the depth needed to make an all important run for the playoffs in just their second year.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues.  All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.  For more information, special group events or tickets, please visit realmaryland.us or contact General Manager David Noyes at (301) 933-6460.
