Monarchs Host Hammerheads Sunday

Silver Spring, MD – On Father’s Day, this Sunday, at 4 pm the Monarchs (5-4) will host the Wilmington Hammerheads (4-3-2) who are now nipping at the heals of the home team in the standings.  The Hammerheads are in 5th place with 14 points while the Monarchs are in 3rd place with 15 points.  With only one point separating the two teams in the standings and with Wilmington being the Head Coach of the Monarchs last club, the game should make for an interesting evening.

Both, Wilmington and Real Maryland FC are coming off of Second Round Games in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup this past Tuesday.  Both teams saw their games go long into the night, but with different results.  The

Monarchs saw their chance to play local MLS Team DC United fade away as a penalty kick was scored against them in 108th minute of 2 OT’s by the Ocean City Barons.  The Hammerheads landed on the other side of the fine line between victory and defeat when they beat the USL First Division Side, the Carolina RailHawks in a game that ended in a penalty kick shootout.

Last season, Real Maryland FC’s Head Coach Anthony Hudson played on the other side of the midline where he was a player/coach with Wilmington.  “Wilmington is a strong organization,” said Coach Hudson.  “Because every team is strong this year, each match is equally important.”

In honor of Father’s Day, the FIRST 100 DADS get a FREE Real Maryland FC t-shirt when they enter Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School.

Real Maryland FC will be in action all weekend starting tonight at 8 pm on Fox Soccer Channel.  In the United Soccer Leagues’ TV Series – USL Breakaways, Real Maryland FC will be one of the clubs highlighted in Episode 2.  There are only 5 episodes that are aired each year and only top clubs, hand-picked by the USL make the cut.  Episode 2 will air on Fox Soccer Channel on the following dates: Friday 6/19 - 8pm ET, Saturday 6/27 – 12:30 pm ET, Friday 7/3 – 6 pm ET, Saturday 7/4 – 8pm ET and Saturday 7/11 – 5pm ET.

On Saturday, the Monarchs travel up to Harrisburg, PA to take on the first place City Islanders.  The last time the two teams met, it was a dogfight that ended with Harrisburg taking the match 3-2.  Real Maryland FC will now travel to try and take 3 points back from the league leaders before they return home on Sunday to face Wilmington.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues.  All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.  For more information or tickets, please visit realmaryland.us or contact General Manager David Noyes at (301) 933-6460.
