Real Maryland FC Prepares for Busy Week

Silver Spring, MD – Real Maryland FC has a big week lined up starting Tuesday, June 9th as the USL 2 Professional Team begins is quest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.  The match will feature the Real Maryland FC Monarchs, who sit in fourth place in the USL Second Division and the Aegean Hawks, who have qualified for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the second time in the past three years as an amateur team.  The match will be played at Richard Montgomery High School with a kick-off time of 6:30 pm.

On Saturday, June 13th the Monarchs (4-4) will take on the Richmond Kickers (3-1-4) who recently jumped ahead of the home team into third place. The two teams find themselves at the top of the defensive statistics of the United Soccer Leagues’ Second Division.  Richmond has only given up 6 goals this season while Real Maryland FC has yielded 10.  The Kickers are coming off of a four game home stand and now hit the road for five straight away games.   The Monarchs’ home stadium, Richard Montgomery High School, will be the Kickers’ second stop after having played the United Soccer Leagues’ First Division Club, the Carolina Railhawks earlier in the week in the First Round of the U.S. Open Cup.

 

To close out the busy week for the Monarch’s Professional Team, Real Maryland FC’s coaching staff and players will conduct at free youth clinic sponsored by Verizon Wireless featuring Carlos Valderrama on Sunday, June 14th.  Known as Carlos "El Pibe" (The Kid) Valderrama, or just "El Pibe" Valderrama is a former Colombian football player.  He is instantly recognizable for the mass of blond, permed hair that he habitually sports. Valderrama captained the Columbian National Football Team in the 1990s during the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. Between 1985 and 1998 he represented Columbia in 111 full international matches and scored 11 times, making him the most capped player in the country’s history.  Valderrama is generally regarded as Columbia’s finest player ever.  Registration is available on the day of the clinic from 8:30-9:00 am.  The clinic will run from 9 am – 1 pm at Richard Montgomery High School.

On the youth side for Real Maryland FC, the Super 20 team will head to N.Y. to play Quickstrike on Sunday, June 14th.  The U17 Super Y League Team will be in action on Saturday, June 13th at home, versus the N.J. Stallions.  On Saturday as well, but away, the Monarch’s SYL U16 Team will head to N.Y. to face the N.Y. Magic.  Real Maryland FC’s U15 team is set for two away games this Friday and Saturday as they take on Parsippany in N.J. and then N.Y. Magic.  Rounding out the Monarch’s SYL weekend action, is the U14 Team as they make their way up to N.Y. to bring home some points as well.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues.
