Real Maryland FC Gets Elusive Road Victory
Silver Spring, MD – Real Maryland FC found their first points from the road tonight with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace Baltimore. In a night that saw thunder and lightning both before and during the match, tonight the local derby did not disappoint.
The first half had some chances miss the goal by both teams and was generally a back and forth game. Both goalkeepers had a couple of saves each to keep the shutout going into the locker rooms at half-time.
In the second half, Crystal Palace Baltimore moved their captain Val Teixeira from one flank to the other to generate some offensive life into the team. The Monarchs resisted the barrage of pressure with its starters until roughly the 65th minute.
In the 65th minute, Coach Hudson substituted into the match Marc Herald-Gracien. The move seemed to re-balance the game to going back and forth with both teams having chances again. But, in approximately the 87th minute, a Gracien cross found Gary Brooks on the back post where he buried the ball somehow through the keeper and into the goal.
“Any points on the road are going to help your cause,” said fist-year Head Coach Anthony Hudson. “I am pleased that we can have different players step up each game to help contribute.” The shutout gives GK David Kern his third of the season while the goal moves Gary Brooks into double digits with points.
The Monarchs are in action at home this Sunday, May 31st at 4 pm when they take on the Harrisburg City Islanders at Richard Montgomery High School. The Islanders sit on top of the table in first place and will prove to be another test for Real Maryland FC.
