Monarchs Open Season With A Win

April 25, 2009 -- Rockville, MD- Real Maryland FC opened up their second season with a win tonight against the Bermuda Hogges.

Real Maryland FC started strong with an early goal from Sean Rush off a Jeff Carroll free kick in the 2nd minute, which was then followed by a Tom Taylor goal, again off a Jeff Carroll set piece in the 32nd minute.

David Kern, coming off his Championship with the Baltimore Blast of the NISL, played like a man possessed in the first half, including a blocked penalty kick in the 23rd minute. Bermuda would not stop fighting as they got on the board right before the halftime whistle.

The Monarchs came out in the second half much like they did in the first, pushing the ball forward and creating chances. Nothing would come of it though until Jamie Holmes scored his first of the season off a Gary Brooks through pass.

Again Bermuda made things interesting when Domica Coddington scored in the 76th minute to bring them back within one. But, a red card to goalkeeper Jason Williams ten minutes later would all but lock it up for the Monarchs. When the final whistle blew the final was 3-2.

Real Maryland FC plays their next game on the road in Pittsburgh against the Riverhounds on Saturday, May 2nd at 7 pm.  The Monarchs will be back at Richard Montgomery High School on Saturday, May 9th when they take on in-state rival Crystal Palace Baltimore.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues.  All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.  For more information, please visit realmaryland.us or contact General Manager David Noyes at (301) 933-6460.
