REAL MARYLAND FC

Monarchs Head to North Carolina for the Weekend

Silver Spring, MD- Real Maryland FC, coming off a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh at home last weekend, will travel down to North Carolina this weekend for a pair of matches against the Wilmington Hammerheads and the Charlotte Eagles.

On Friday night, the Monarchs will step on the pitch against the Hammerheads for the second time this season.  In their previous meeting this year, the Hammerheads swam away with a 3-0 win.  Behind a solid defense and two goals by Jamie Watson, Wilmington made it seem like just another day at the beach.  Since the meeting in Rockville, MD, the two teams have continued to accumulate points and are neck and neck with the Monarchs just two points behind Wilmington in the race for the playoffs.

On Saturday night, in the second game of a back-to-back weekend, Real Maryland FC will take the field for the first time this season against the Charlotte Eagles.  The Eagles are coming off a strong 5-0 victory against the Western Mass Pioneers and find themselves just two points behind the Monarchs.  Known to come on strong towards the end of the season and to be difficult to play at home, Charlotte will pose a tough challenge for Real Maryland.

What is in the favor of the Monarchs is that they will have all but one of their players back for the first time this season.  Because of injuries and cards, the team has had to get the job done with different faces up to this point.  Real Maryland FC will look to defy the odds this weekend as Coach Hudson guides the team through North Carolina.

Next weekend, the Monarchs return home for a couple of home matches on Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th.  On Friday, July 24th, Real Maryland FC will take on the Charlotte Eagles where all children and persons with disabilities receive free admission to the match.  On Saturday, July 25th, Real Maryland FC Monarchs will step up to face Guatemalan side CSD Municipal in their second International Friendly of the 2009 Season.  Matches on both nights will start at 6 pm.

Real Maryland FC participates in the Second Division of the United Soccer Leagues.  All 2009 Regular Season Home Games will be played at Lester Stadium at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.  For more information or tickets, please visit realmaryland.us or contact General Manager David Noyes at (301) 933-6460.
