Report: Real Maryland 0 - Richmond Kickers 3

Three different Richmond Kickers were on target as the Virginia club sent its northern neighbors crashing to their sixth consecutive defeat, 3-0 at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Following a host of good chances, the visitors took the lead in the 21st minute. Adrian Bumbut took a pass from Kelvin Jones in midfield and weaved his way through a stagnant Monarchs defense before dispatching his shot into the near corner from the top of the box. It was Bumbut’s first professional goal.

Richmond should have increased its lead twelve minutes later. Stanley Nyazamba combined well with Wilfred Smith at the top of the box, but Smith shot widely over with the goal at his mercy.

The Kickers came out strong in the second half, but had to wait till the 53rd minute for their second goal. Smith set off on a mazy run in midfield, played a one-two with Bumbut at the top of the box, and slammed his shot past a helpless Emilio Zelaya in the Real Maryland goal.

Nyazamba completed the route twelve minutes from time when he found himself all alone in front of goal following some devastating inter-passing by Michael Burke and Luke Vercollone.

Burke and Vercollone played the Real Maryland defense and goalkeeper out of position. Burke fed the ball to Nyazamba who waited for an opening before slamming the ball into the back of the net.

Real Maryland has no time to reflect on the defeat as they are right back at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Sunday to face defending champions Harrisburg at 4:00 PM.
