On Saturday, the Real Maryland Super 20?s (3-1-1) takes on the Potomac Soccer Club (4-0-1) in a battle for SoccerPlex and Mid Atlantic Group B supremacy.
This will mark the second ?local derby? for Real Maryland as the Monarchs, Potomac and DC United all call the Maryland SoccerPlex home.
A Monarchs win over their rivals would put them level on points, but give them the edge in the head to head tie breaker heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Potomac is a well organized club with a strong and successful history from the youth level all the way up to their Super 20 team with many state cups, regional titles, and some Potomac teams have even won the US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Real Maryland Super 20s head coach Roger Fernandez expects Potomac?s reputation to precede them on Saturday. ?They are a strong and organized club,? the gaffer said in an interview this morning. ?They are very fast and strong on the wings so we will have to play them tight and not allow them any space, but I think we have the players to match them for speed.?
Despite this being a match-up of Potomac?s long and proud history versus an up and coming organization in Real Maryland, Fernandez expects nothing but the best effort from his players come Saturday. ?
?I don?t use the excuse that it?s ok to do bad in our first year. I like to things well from the beginning. So having to play all these teams for the first time means a lot because we want to win every game whether we?re playing a team for the first time or the 50th.?
?I?m confident but you?ve always got to respect your opponents and play them on the field and not on paper.?
A victory on Saturday means the Real Maryland Super 20s will be only two wins away from Disney World and the USL Super 20 play-offs.
