Real Maryland?s Super-20s were in action twice last week at the Maryland SoccerPlex, drawing against local rivals DC United and winning against Parsippany S.C.
Real Maryland began their week last Wednesday in a very competitive match against DC United that ended 0-0.
Both teams played a disciplined style in the first half of the match, not letting either side create many scoring chances. The deadlock was nearly broken in the second half when Monarchs midfielder Eric Gonzalez?s tremendous strike hit the post. The DC forwards replied with numerous attacks, only to be denied by Monarchs goalkeeper Oscar Alvarenga.
?This was a very competitive game between two of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic division,? praised Super-20s coach Roger Fernandez. ?I thought both teams matched up evenly and played well.?
Fernandez?s side faired better the following Sunday against Parsippany S.C., winning the fixture 2-1.
Playing on a tough field surface, it was the New Jersey side that took a 1-0 lead after possessing the ball for long periods of the first half. The Monarchs responded to the deficit in the second half with two successful strikes from forward Forday Kamara, who has now scored 7 goals in 3 games.
?Kamara had a great game,? Fernandez remarked after the match. ?We were asleep during the first half and Parsippany capitalized off it. We woke up at the beginning of the second-half with a different mentality and it paid off?.
Real Maryland Super-20s are currently 2nd in the USL Super Y-League Mid-Atlantic table. The team plays Potomac Academy on July 5th at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
