What a game!  If you haven’t already heard, we took revenge on Cleveland Saturday with an awesome 3-2 win.  We started out slow but the defense really dug in after the first 20 minutes and the offense got going.

Dennis Alas had an awesome goal kicking from the right corner of the box and sneaking it into the left side of the goal off the post to give us the lead.  It was a beautiful shot!  Our winning goal came with three minutes left in regulation and after some tense moments near the end we managed to come out with a win.

We really needed this victory since it gave us three points in the standings and qualified us for a spot in the Open Cup.  I’m excited to find out who we will face in the first round of the tournament since Open Cup matches always have a championship feel to them.  It’s fun to go out against a team you have never faced from a different level and have a chance to compete.  With the single-elimination format every game is do or die.

While the Open Cup will be fun, we still have our eye on the prize, a USL-2 Championship.  Based on some of the results this weekend it looks like Bermuda will be a tough place to play and that our rivals in Baltimore are giving everyone a game.  As you know, records don’t matter on the field since anything can happen so we’ll keep playing our best and pick up a few more wins.

Once again the crowd was great on Saturday and Mother Nature finally began to cooperate as it was our first home game with no rain.  We loved having everyone behind us and look forward to seeing our rowdy fans next weekend against Wilmington.

See you next weekend and Go Monarchs!
