Last Wednesday, the Real Maryland Super 20 team tied the Northern Virginia Royals PDL team 1-1 in an exhibition match held in Ashburn Virginia.
?It was a great game,? said head coach Roger Fernandez. ?We moved the ball very well and created many opportunities.?
After a first half without incident, Real Maryland took the lead 10 minutes into the second frame, courtesy of a Hector Velarde strike that found the upper left corner.
A stingy Monarchs defense, led by Isiaka Kamara and Adres Chavarria, held the lead until the 89th minute, but there was nothing they could do as goalkeeper Dennis Gutierrez flapped at a cross and a grateful Royals forward tapped in the equalizer.
Fernandez is still in the process of finalizing and molding his U-20 squad for the upcoming season. Once the team is established, the players will be officially presented to the media.
