REAL MARYLAND FC

West Virginia Scrimmage Cancelled

Tomorrow’s scrimmage with West Virginia at the Maryland SoccerPlex has been cancelled.

This morning, Real Maryland FC received a call from Mountaineers head coach Marlon LeBlanc informing the club that three of his players were injured in last nights 1-0 loss to American University. These injuries combined with injuries suffered in previous matches have left West Virginia virtually unable to field a squad. As a result, West Virginia has no choice but to back out of the game.

The late cancellation is a bit of a double edged sward for Real Maryland.

On the one hand, the team misses out on a great chance to test themselves against an accomplished NCAA squad that finished last season ranked 13th in the nation and has produced five professional players in two years.

On the other hand, it gives the Monarchs players an extra day of recovery in-between tonight’s scrimmage with UMBC and their 2008 inaugural USL-2 season and home opener against Western Mass at 4:00 PM next Sunday.
