Real Maryland Duo Getting the Job Done for Club and Country

On Wednesday, Real Maryland FC players and staff were on hand at RFK to cheer on two of their own. Ronald Cerritos and Dennis Alas stared for El Salvador as the Central Americans defeated Anguilla 4-0 in the second leg of Stage 1 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.

Cerritos scored the games first goal in the 8th minute, finding the inside of the right post off a feed from William Torres. In addition to his goal last night, Cerritos scored a hat trick in his sides 12-0 first leg victory in El Salvador.

Dennis Alas played the second half after coming on as a 46th minute substitute for Oscar Jimenez and despite not scoring, had a very strong outing.

El Salvador advances to the second stage of qualifying 16-0 on aggregate and will face Panama in a home and home series with the first match on June 14th.

The winners of Stage Two will advance to a two group (6 teams each group- 10 games per team) round robin tournament. The top three teams in each group will then play in a final group (6 teams- 10 games per team) with the top three teams advancing to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The 4th placed team will play in a two legged playoff against the fifth placed team from CONMEBOL (South America) for the right to compete in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Real Maryland wishes Cerritos, Alas, and El Salvador all the best against Panama.
