Real Maryland would like to congratulate its Super 20’s for an incredible performance at Nationals this past weekend.

The young Monarchs reached the Semi-finals of the National tournament before losing to eventual runners-up, the Toronto Lynx.

The Super 20s finished the regular season in fourth place with a 4-1-3 mark in the Mid-Atlantic Group B standings, but was invited to the National tournament because other teams were unable to attend.

In their first match, the Real Maryland Super 20s proved that they were not just there to make up the numbers as they upset defending national champions PDA (NJ) 1-0 on a second half goal by substitute Ignacio Diaz.

Real Maryland continued to defy the odds as they comfortably dispatched of the Carolina Dynamo 3-0 to qualify for the semi-finals by topping Group A with a game to spare.

With the final game a formality, Real Maryland took its foot of the accelerator and fell 3-2 to the Florida Soccer Alliance.

The Monarchs fell in the Semi-Final 1-0 to Toronto, but head coach Roger Fernandez was still pleased with the team’s outstanding effort. “We played really well versus quality teams,” Fernandez beamed. “My players were very happy and enjoyed the opportunity to play in such a prestigious tournament.

“I am very proud of this group of guys and what they were able to accomplish.”

Three Monarchs named to All-Tournament Team

Goalkeeper Oscar Alvarenga, defender Isika Kamara and midfielder Lucas Zsabo were named to the Super 20 All- Tournament Team.

“Each of these guys are great players with a very bright future,” Fernandez said upon learning of his players’ achievements. “I expect them to have the opportunity to play for our senior team or to at least play at the professional level in the very near future.”
