Real Maryland Super-20s goalkeeper Oscar Alvarenga is certain to be one of the standout players at this week?s Super-20 League North American Finals. The tournament commences Wednesday, July 30th in Virginia Beach, VA and will showcase some of the best rising talents in the game.
?
The Montgomery County local has grown up playing soccer at numerous levels. He has been a regular starter for both Seneca Valley High School and local side Juventus FC. With the latter, he has become one of the premier keepers in the region.
?
As captain of the Monarchs, the nineteen year-old has led by example between the posts with the ambition of one day playing at the highest level.
?
?My aim is to one day play professionally,? states Alvarenga confidently. ?The Nationals will be the biggest tournament I have played in so far and I hope to gain a lot of experience from it.?
?
Super-20s coach Roger Fernandez has no doubt that the player has what it takes to become a professional.
?
?Oscar is only a few steps away from making it to the professional team,? asserts Fernandez. ?He has great potential and I feel that he will get the job done. He is a special kid.?
?
The Monarchs finished third in the Mid-Atlantic Group B division and was invited to participate in the distinguished tournament after another club pulled out. The team?s opening Group A match will be against Mid-Atlantic Group A champions PDA on Thursday, July 31st and Alvarenga knows the task ahead.
?
?We have been given a second chance at the Nationals,? professes the young captain. ?We?re traveling to Virginia Beach to take advantage of this fact and do our coach proud. Our match against PDA will be tough but I believe in the depth and commitment of this squad.?
?
The Monarchs will then face the Carolina Dynamo and the Florida Alliance with the intention of advancing from its group.
?
The final will be held Sunday, August 3rd.
