Interview With New Coach Carlos Antonio Vieira
First off, Welcome to Real Maryland! Give us your thoughts on joining the club:
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I AM EXCITED TO BE HERE AND IT IS MY GOAL TO MAKE REAL MARYLAND BIGGER AND BETTER.
How did you get involved with Owner Victor Moran and Real Maryland?
A WHILE BACK I HAD SPOKEN WITH VICTOR MORAN. HE HAD ALREADY SEEN MY RESUME AND THEN WE STARTED TALKING MORE AND MORE.
What did you think of your first game in charge?
I FELT THAT THE FANS HAD A LOT OF EXPECTATIONS AND I HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO FULFILL THEIR WISHES.
What improvements need to be made?
AT THIS TIME THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO TAKE THINGS ONE STEP AT A TIME. TO TRY TO FINISH STRONG AND TO SEE WHAT PLAYERS WE WANT TO KEEP FOR NEXT SEASON.
Did any of the players catch your eye?
I DON’T LIKE TO TALK ABOUT INDIVIDUALS, BUT MR. HUNTE PLAYED A GOOD GAME AGAINST BERMUDA.
What kind of style do you want Real Maryland to play?
I WANT TO PLAY STRONG AND ORGANIZED SOCCER WITH FOUR OR FIVE ATTACKERS WHEN WE HAVE THE BALL AND WITH SEVEN DEFENDERS WHEN WE DON’T HAVE THE BALL.
You’re coming into a rough situation with a team that is in the midst of a losing streak - how do you handle that?
MY GOAL IS FOR THE FUTURE. I THINK THE FORMATION OF THE NEW PLAYERS THAT WILL JOIN THE TEAM IS VERY IMPORTANT. IT’S DIFFUCULT TO JOIN A TEAM THAT HAS LOST EIGHT GAMES IN A ROW, BUT WE HAVE TO ANALYZE EVERY SITUATION.
What are your goals for the final three games of this season?
WE HOPE TO HAVE GOOD GAMES AND TO EARN SOME POINTS. AGAINST BERMUDA WE PLAYED WELL, BUT UNFORTUNATELY WE MADE ELEMENTARY MISTAKES WHICH COST US THE GAME.
What are your goals for next season?
WHEN THERE ARE CHANGES ON A TEAM, THERE ARE PLAYERS THAT LEAVE AND PLAYERS THAT COME IN. WE HOPE WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO SELECT THE RIGHT PLAYERS THAT WILL HELP US FORM A STRONGER TEAM.
What are your thoughts on Richmond this Saturday?
WE KNOW IT WILL BE A DIFFICULT GAME, BUT WE ALWAYS HAVE THE FAITH AND TRUST THAT WE CAN COME OUT OF VIRGINIA WITH A GOOD RESULT.
