The Real Maryland Super 20s tied local rivals Potomac 2-2 on Saturday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The young Monarchs took the lead through Lucas Szabo in the first 15 minutes, but Potomac drew level just before halftime.
Draymond Washington put Real Maryland back on top at the start of the second half, but a red card to David Santos put the Monarchs on the back foot and Potomac was able to find the equalizer.
Real Maryland almost took all three points two minutes from time, but the post denied Szabo of a second goal.
?We played well,? Super 20s Coach Roger Fernandez said. ?We played tight defense, had some good possession and we made plays, but in the end we gave up the tying goal.?
Fernandez singled out goalkeeper Oscar Alvarenga for special praise. ?Oscar was definitely the man of the match,? Fernandez said. ?He made some tremendous stops to keep us in the game.?
The Super 20s are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Harrisburg to face the City Islanders.
Real Maryland is currently in second place in the Mid-Atlantic Group B table. If the Monarchs hold their position throughout the final two games, they will cement their place in the Super 20 league playoffs.
