HISTORY IN THE MAKING...
George Washington's Colonials 1 - Real Maryland F.C.'s Monarchs 1
March 1st, 2008, Washington, D.C. - Today marks a historic event in Professional Soccer in the Metropolitan area, it was the debut of the newest Professional soccer team, Real Maryland FC. This first Pre-season game against GWU was a great game, very fast paced with many shots at goal. The game was well attended with about 50 Fans cheering for Real Maryland
The fans came prepared for the cold temperatures with blankets, gloves and warm clothing. Despite the cold weather there were fans supporting the team, and there was even one fan that could be heard with his drum and his cheers. Both teams played well but Real Maryland dominated most of the game.
The first half ended with no scoring but many shots on goal. About 20 minutes into the second half GWU was able to get the ball in the net, to make it 1-0 in favor of GWU. Real Maryland F.C. did not give up. They stayed persistent, like they had been throughout the game. In the 70th minute of the second half, Real Maryland had an amazing shot on goal. Real Maryland got there well deserved goal giving them a well deserved, 1-1 tie.
Pre-Season training sessions began about two week ago and will continue to run through the rest of the Pre-Season games on these dates and at these locations:
The Inaugural Regular Season will start on April 20th, 2008 playing against Western Mass Pioneers of Massachusetts at the Maryland Soccerplex in Germantown (Boyds) Maryland.
