Christian Montero Headed for Colombia

Goalie Loaned to Academia F.C.

Real Maryland goalkeeper Christian Montero will join Colombian side Academia F.C. on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Bogotá side opens its season in Premiera B (the second division in Colombia) next weekend against Bajo Cauca.

A finish at the top of the table means a shot at promotion to the premier division in Colombia- the first place team receives direct promotion while the other top teams enter a playoff for the remaining promotion slots.

Academia came close to joining Colombia’s elite last year loosing to Deportivo Pereira 4-2 on aggregate in the promotion playoff.

“I am sad to be leaving Real Maryland.” Montero said in an interview yesterday.

At the same time, however, Montero is happy to be going back to his native Colombia. “It’s been a year since I’ve been home and I have the chance to play with a team who has been on the verge of making it to the premier division in Colombia and I hope to help them reach the top flight this season.”
